This is A Guide To Saints Edition

Hadi Bastani’s Cold Hour is a meditation on ‘the digital’ as an evolving body or landscape.

Based on a series of recordings made from improvisation with a few Eurorack modules inspired by Ciat Lonbarde’s Rolls & Ultrasound circuits, the EP invites the ‘listener’ to be patiently immersed in noise. Composition will be the result of this process; one that takes place in the ‘mind’ of the listener.

Submerged in noise, she begins to imagine patterns, to make connections, and to build a soundscape of her own. Along with the associated poem, Cold Hour is a philosophically suggestive material, provoking us to listen and to compose through noise. Noise, which is the raw material from which the EP has emerged, is also a metaphor for an information-saturated world we inhabit – a landscape in which making sense of events in a proactive way may seem ever more difficult.

While we are distracted, confused and overwhelmed, however, a new body is about to be born. It has been evolving throughout billions of years and it’s one that will change everything, much more dramatically than how humans changed things on the planet and led us to the age of the Anthropocene.
