Feather
A note from Peter…
One of the things I love about improvised music is that without knowing much about another person it can take you deep into a relationship, and deep into an intense mode of communication almost immediately. It can open a space of vulnerability, of aggression, of intimacy, and exaltation. Layered and infinitely complex.
And sometimes, first meetings are the most exciting because it’s impossible to know what will emerge. Impossible to know what the music will reveal to you about yourself, about that moment, the physical space you’re in, and about the person opposite you with whom you are exchanging musical ideas.
Just as the feather traces its relationship with the air as it falls, flipping from side to side and turned by invisible fingers, the improvised musical moment expresses subtext.
The pieces offered here started as an unrehearsed, unscripted, two and a half hour session recorded in the Athens basement of JAM pedals (the company that Jannis founded and runs). It has since been distilled to this 32 minute expression of that encounter. File sharing across time zones, layering, editing, refining – the improvised moment becomes something else. The learning continues.
