Charting the various creative enterprises of Ai Yamamoto is no easy task.

Over the past 15 years she has been a covert figure in the Australian electronic music community. Original from Shizumi, a small town in Nara prefecture in Japan, Yamamoto move to Melbourne, and in the early 00s she set about creating powerful audio visual works that pushed technology to its limits.

Her works, which often focused on looping melodies and iterative visual elements resonated strongly in her new home and across that decade, she performed regularly. Documentation of these performances however was not her priority and only a few editions of her works were released.

After some time away from music, occupying herself with various other projects and duties, Yamamoto returns to sound with a new vigour. Remembering, her first release in a series of works that span various aesthetic interests, captures her interest in melody and harmony. Instinctively pop at its heart, this EP opens Yamamoto’s sound world out into a realm previously under-explored by her.

The results are playful but focused, with a distinct sense of space and texture.
