The Endless Hum
Music has a way of operating between a zone of both reflection and description. It offers a unique sensory canvas upon which both experience and imagination can co-exists, even in the same moment.
For Brazilian musician Hari Maia, this porous surface is the setting for his latest edition The Endless Hum. Here Maia charts a fluid cascade of sound that speaks to and perhaps even describes the moments of anxiety and relief that orbit us in our daily lives.
This record charts out a contoured (but varying) path through the uncertain terrains of now. It is both a guide to these unsteady moments and a cure for them. It offers a thread of continuity that is born out in its long form features.
Like our days, this is a music of arrival and departure, a music of fluidity in time and place. It recurs, but even in its recurrence its form and experience are never set, but rather reflect back to us where we are, how we are feeling and perhaps even offers us a tow line out of the darker moments of our times.
